By the way, if you wasn’t in Berlin on the 31 December, the city looked pretty much like that:

Happy new year!

Airbnb – Part II

Le Champignon has won against Airbnb yippie!!!

If you missed the beginning of this story, you can read the first chapter here: Airbnb. Or a better place to rip you off

And the rest here 🙂

—————–

I left you guys when we were about to leave this horrible house but still had to find a hotel. Thank God, my better half had lived a few years in Fort Lauderdale and knew pretty much all the good hotel options we had there.

We therefore left within the next two hours and headed towards the Hilton Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale.

(Which, by the way, is a great hotel.)

On the following day, I had finally managed to submit my “Travel Issue” to Airbnb Support. I later provided the videos my better half made. I also used the Live Chat option Airbnb has on their Facebook page several times, and over the past two weeks I ended up talking to Ann C, Lindsay W, Samantha A, that wonderful Erik, Laura H, Tony G, Joey B, and finally Sydney.

As a reminder, these were the issues we had with the house rented  :

– Air conditioning ONLY in the kitchen area, nowhere else (the house is 4000 f²/372 m²)

– Presence of hamsters in the kitchen

– Main glass doors not locking

– 1 room smelling like mould and with heavy humidity.

Airbnb. Or a better place to rip you off – Part I

Dear hipsters,

this week we want to share with you the real and sad experience from one of our Berliner Important People 😦

As we know that you like to travel around the world, this text can give you a realistic view of what could happen to you if you’re unlucky at some point.

You can read the beginning of her misadventure here.

———————-

Airbnb, a better place to stay. Or so they say.

So early this year, we discovered Airbnb.

In March, we tried it for the first time to rent a little rooftop room in Nice, and the experience was good.

On our next trip to Aix-en-Provence, I thought we could maybe rent an appartment as well. We met Benoît, a lovely guy from Southern France, who was super helpful and super nice. We stayed in his rooftop appartment, right in the center of the city, there was a amazing rooftop terrasse with a barbecue, and the view was simply amazing. We were very happy to stay there, and I am sure we would love to come back there at some point.

Convinced this was the new way to go when we go on holidays, we also rented an appartment through Airbnb in Copenhagen. There, same experience, the host, Oliver, was lovely, the appartment was spotless clean, the location was super convenient. Alltogether a really good experience too.

So, when we decided to go to Florida on holidays, why not go through Airbnb again? We wanted to plan a little family get-together, so renting a whole house seemed to be the perfect plan. So we went ahead and decided to go for a house based in Dania Beach, just a little bit north of Fort Lauderdale.

Everything was set per email through the Airbnb platform, we payed in advance as the website requests it, and we advised the host that we would arrive at 5:00 PM on the first day of the reservation. Everything ran pretty smoothly with the communication with her, everything seemed fine.

On the 18th of August, we arrived at the house at 5:00 PM, as confirmed by the host. The cleaners were still there, the host came and quickly showed us around. The place looked a lot more worn out and older than on the pictures posted on the profile. But never mind. The host then told us the AC has just been started, hence the feeling of humidity combined with hot air in the house. We didn’t say anything, let her talk, and only hoped the temperature in the house was going to get better.

The Berlinhipsterfestival2012 and Google

Dear hipsters,

the Berlinhipsterfestival2012 project has been online for almost 8 weeks now.

At the beginning there was nothing: no website, no band, no motivation, just a concept.

After those 8 weeks, we are proud to see that there is a LineUp (at least a few confirmed bands!) and that the request “Berlin Hipster Festival” is now findable on Google!!

It proves that we are more visible on Internet and that widespreading our message is reaching more and more people!

Thank you to all of you for your support and watch out for new updates: this Wednesday we’ll have a final surprise for you!

Stay tuned 😀

The song of the day: Luke Milion – Arnold

Dear hipsters,

if you leave in Berlin as we do, you have noticed that EVERYBODY is obsessed about Football and the UEFA 2012!

Everybody but a bunch of cool people who are organizing the 1st hipster festival in Berlin!

Like Conan the Barbarian we are here so stay tuned with us and discover this remix of Luke Milion about the famous fitness song of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Come on, more energy 🙂

BEING A HIPSTER IS COOL

Actually it is so cool that the Marvel’s god THOR are a perfect target of our hipsterness!

Look closely:

Wonderful!

Do you think this actor would like to participate to the Berlinhipsterfestival2012?

Love you guys and hope to read your hipsthor comments 😀

How to keep the motivation for the berlinhipsterfestival2012?

Berlin is the coolest city in the world but the main problem here is that the summer never really comes!

There are 3 sunny days and after 2 cold weeks : in those conditions how to enjoy the Berliner Biergarten!

We try to go ahead and to contribute to give a better hipster image of our festival. Believe it or not, it is really hard because of our competitors! We need your support : in 2 weeks we will reveal if we continue our hipster’s aventure or not.

Post comments, like our Facebook page and speak about us with your friends! All the feedback we can get back is the biggest help that you can give us. Hope to read you soon!

When we need a little bit of motivation, we listen to music. And what best music as… PUNK ROCK!!

SUM 41 is definitely the best medication in this case 😀

Skifcha, the hipster cat

In the hipster’s animal serie, let us introduce to you a hipster cat: Skitcha!

He has a real presence and he is at the mustache what the lamas are at the haircut.

Have a nice week-end and don’t foget to let a little comment if you want to share any remarks or emotions with us 🙂

Berlin hat die Hipsters

Hey Folks,

The weather here is so changing. Last week we were prompting you to get out of the house and bring your barbecue with you to grill sausages outside, and now the weather is horrendous. Rainy, barely 15°C. So weird.

Today, I just wanted to share with you a really cool picture we have spotted online, which was taken at the beginning of the year for the CeBIT.

The picture was originally posted on this blog.

So is Berlin the most renowned capital city for Hipsters? We think so!

Where else would we have held the Berlin Hipster Festival 2012 then? No where!

… But being a nerd is also super cool, we love nerds too! 😀

Have a wonderful weekend folks,

xx

Even the lamas get the blues!

Dear you,

we have found the evidence that animals too want to take part of the hipster’s revolution!

As we mentioned it few days ago… WE are EVERYWHERE!!!

Thank you Brain Magazine for this photo.

Don’t you think these are really cute?? You can choose your favorite one and share it in the comments 🙂

I personally like the 5th lama with his Ziggy Stardust / Kiss haircut.

“I was made for loving you!”

Hipster Dictators

Hey everyone !

I’ve just  found those cool artworks made with very uncool personalities. An artist worked on many dictators portraits so that they look like hipster people. The effect of his work is really funny. Take a look !

Dictator hipster
Dictator hipster 2
Would they have been much more friendly though?

Last but not least, because Berliner’s most famous despot is not on this list, I recommend you to visit the Hipster Hitler website. Funny comics about an Hipster version of Hitler.

See you soon and have a nice day with those guys !! … Or not.

YES ! We are EVERYWHERE !

Hello Folks,

We hope you all had a nice long weekend. It was sunny, it was warm, it was great. This past monday was also a bank holiday in Germany, so a lot of people went outside to ride bikes and enjoy the sun. Or, as I mentioned it in a post a few days ago, they also all took their barbecues out and went grilling tons of Wurst and Halloumi (yes, being vegetarian is cool).

Although some people seem to not like us, it looks like the Hipster attitude is expanding slowly but wisely, and because we like to keep an eye on what people say about us, we have found some pretty interesting articles that might be worthwhile reading :

=> Do you know whether you’ve become a Berliner Hipster? Read here and see whether you pass the test!

=> Where to go if you want to meet Hipsters and you happen to be in Berlin? All the best spots are mentioned here!

=> You’re a Hipster from LA and you want to connect with Hipsters in Berlin? Look, there’s a super easy way to connect now!

And last but not least, who is the best capital in the world to attract young, cool, positive people with a Hipster vibe? BERLIN of course!

Convinced being a Hipster is the way to go? We will post more articles in the next days and we are sure you will all be dying to attend our Berlin Hipster Festival!!!

… And hopefully these messages won’t appear too much anymore…!

How to be Indie/Hipster?

This video will show you all the clichés of the hipster community.

It’s fresh, it’s hilarious and well… We guess that it is true.

So good to laugh about ourselves too 😀

Don’t forget to watch the LineUp of the Berlinhipsterfestival2012 and post a comment with the bands that you would like to see at the festival 🙂

This week-end in Berlin…the Eurovision!

This Saturday evening, the Eurovision Contest in Baku will be retransmitted on TV all over the world.

Just would like to send you a little reminder for this performance because it is about music, peace and love in the world, and as you have noticed it is exactly our ambitions for the Berlinhipsterfestival2012 🙂

You don’t know s*** about the origins of the Eurovision? Let ask our best friend:

In the 1950s, as a war-torn Europe rebuilt itself, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU)—based in Switzerland—set up an ad-hoc committee to search for ways of bringing together the countries of the EBU around a “light entertainment programme”.[14] At a committee meeting held in Monaco in January 1955, director general of Swiss television and committee chairman Marcel Bezençon conceived the idea of an international song contest where countries would participate in one television programme, to be transmitted simultaneously to all countries of the union.[14][15] The competition was based upon the existing Sanremo Music Festival held in Italy,[16] and was also seen as a technological experiment in live television: as in those days, it was a very ambitious project to join many countries together in a wide-area international network. Satellite television did not exist, and the so-called Eurovision Network comprised a terrestrial microwave network.[17] The concept, then known as “Eurovision Grand Prix”, was approved by the EBU General Assembly in at a meeting held in Rome on 19 October 1955 and it was decided that the first contest would take place in spring 1956 in Lugano, Switzerland.[14] The name “Eurovision” was first used in relation to the EBU’s network by British journalist George Campey in the London Evening Standard in 1951.[15]

The first contest was held in the town of Lugano, Switzerland, on 24 May 1956. Seven countries participated—each submitting two songs, for a total of 14. This was the only contest in which more than one song per country was performed: since 1957 all contests have allowed one entry per country. The 1956 Contest was won by the host nation, Switzerland.[18]

The programme was first known as the “Eurovision Grand Prix”. This “Grand Prix” name was adopted by the Francophone countries, where the contest became known as “Le Grand-Prix Eurovision de la Chanson Européenne”.[19] The “Grand Prix” has since been dropped and replaced with “Concours” (contest) in these countries. The Eurovision Network is used to carry many news and sports programmes internationally, among other specialised events organised by the EBU.[20] However, in the minds of the public, the name “Eurovision” is most closely associated with the song contest

At the Berlinhipsterfestival2012 we already have 2 winners for the 2012 edition:

Ireland and the crazy twins:

And Russia and the old pretty women:

But our favorite competitor for this edition has unfortunately not made it to represent Austria for the competition.

As we are gay and bear friendly, here is Conchita Wurst with That’s what I am and a positive message of self acceptation:

More excited news about the show on the official website of the Eurovision.

What country are you for?

Berlin Hipsters, GO GRILLING!!

This past week has experienced a tremendous change in weather temperature in our wonderful city of Berlin.

That was yesterday at 6:23 PM :

That’s today at 2:36PM. Just like a Groundhog Day!!!

Pretty damn hot, right?

If you feel like getting your barbecue out and grill some meat and veggies, and even if you can’t because you have no balcony or the neighbours are not much into barbecued meat, don’t forget there are plenty of public parks in Berlin where you can go grill some halloumi without disturbing anyone ! Indeed the city of Berlin has even posted a map online where you can all see all the cool grilling spots.

And if you also want to check the grilling weather forecasts, the reference in weather forcasting in Germany even tells you the grilling condition forecasts, ain’t that grand!

Here is a snapshot of the sausage cooking forecasts for today. The more sausages there are on the little barbecues, the better it is for running out the door to the next park!

But wait. Why are we talking about this today? Because at the 2012 Edition of the Berlin Hipster Festival, you will be able to bring your own barbecue as well!!!!!

Indeed, Tempelhof has the privilege to have 3 different areas where you can grill sausages and stuff. So during the Festival, there will be plenty of time to chill out on the grass on the designated grilling areas.

And if you still can’t find them, be sure you will spot the areas : usually the big cloud of sausage smoke can be seen from pretty far away…!

So put on your apron and let’s go!!!

The font of the Berlinhipsterfestival is the Berlin sans FB!

Dear Hipsters,

We would like to introduce you the awesome font that we have chosen for the festival – which is part of our official Graphic Chart.

This is the “Berlin without FB“!

Obviously we chose it because of the name (Berlin, du bist so wunderbar!), of course.

The font also has a dynamic and airy form, and corresponds brilliantly to  our philosophy.

As Microsoft says:

“Berlin Sans is based on a brilliant alphabet from the late twenties, the first without ever Designed That Lucian Bernhard, imaginative and little-known. Assisted by Matthew Butterick, David Berlow expanded the single font Into a series of weights oven, full oven with all character sets Expert, plus one dingbat font”.

What about you, do you have a favorite font?

Put a comment and let’s have a little talk about it 🙂

Love Berlin’s Hipsters

Dear followers,

We would like to make things clear : we are aware that many people or entities do not endorse our movement.

We do not know the precise reasons for this shameful hatred – that is so unfair, we only want to represent Trendy Fashion and Pure Joy at the Berlinhipsterfestival2012 ! –  We will NOT allow a bunch of shameless people TRASH our name and our beautiful generation!

By means of contrast, we will stand up and use our favorite weapon : humor and irony!

Thou shalt want to kill our movement may throw a bottle of Club Mate at our face!

Here, and at the festival, we will only represent full love and flower power.

Print this message and become messengers of our universal message!

Yours truly,

BHFestival2012’s team

Another Last Minute Announcement ! EXCITEMENT ! THE GREEN MUSHROOM

And when you thought the line-up was confirmed and ready to go, there are still some awesome surprises for you. Indeed, we strive every day to find new promising artists, and we are extremely excited to share with you there will be a couple of announcements in the coming days concernant the feature of new talents coming to the Berlin Hipster Festival 2012.

So spread the news and get ready for some more entertainement!!!

This time we are really proud to introduce you to our new star :

THE GREEN MUSHROOM

Born in the beautiful region of Provence, gifted with this wonderful typical accent from this area, the Green Mushroom studied Piano at the Music Conservatory in Southern France. A classically trained musician, she went during her last year of music studies to study in the neighbourhoods of Berklee College of Music to improve her improvisation skills on the keyboard. Years later after getting her Graduation Certificate, she went back to the Conservatory to study Drums, which you can imagine, was a hell lot easier than reading complex Chopin parts and trying to get dexterity on all fingers with a rubber on top of each hand (… it’s supposed to give you the perfect hand balance.)

Nowadays, the Green Mushroom enjoys playing only to very restricted public audiences, if not by herself, so it is with tremendous pleasure that we found out she agreed to take part in this festival, and will actually give a concert which will beat the crap out of any concert at the International Piano Festival held in la Roque d’Anthéron every year.

And if you guys are nice enough to her, the Green Mushroom will even go crazy on a drum improvisation. And not because she eats magic mushrooms, no no nooooo, the Green Mushroom, unlike the name, is a healthy fungus.

We hope you guys will all welcome The Green Mushroom with warmth and hope this announcement makes you even more excited to attend the Festival!!!

Did you say cool?

The best sunglasses of the world are now on the berlinhipsterfestival2012!

As you can see we are working very hard to organize this festival (yes, this is a calendar under the keybord).

And if you didn’t notice it before…

BEING A HIPSTER IS COOL!
